Irish Container Home

Designer: Patrick Bradley Architects

Category: Architecture

Year: Present-2020

Overview:  The architects employed a completely new approach for the area, designing the first modern shipping container construction in Northern Ireland. They used 4 containers in total to create two large cantilever forms. The exterior of the residence is covered with dark gray powder-coated expanded metal sheets (used for the upper level) and pre-rusted Corten steel (for the lower level).

The containers were insulated and waterproofed to prevent rust and they were used to create a structure that acts like a sculpture but also blends in with the surroundings. The building complements the forms and colors found in the local area.

The desire was to create a completely different atmosphere between the two levels. The layout takes advantage of the views over the woodland, the nearby river and the distant mountains. There are two entry points. One is an orange door on the ground level and the primary entrance is on the upper floor.

The upper level contains a galley and an open plan which houses the living and dining spaces and the kitchen. There are also two balconies to the South and West and a hidden door that leads into a bedroom. In total, the house has three bedrooms.

Overview:  The house is situated near the National Park of Paracas in Peru. It was built with two floors and a total area of 778 square meters. It has a front yard that’s exposed to the strong winds of the coast so the designers created an additional courtyard for the outdoor activities.

The courtyard and the swimming pool divide the mansion into two units. One contains the living area with the terrace, the dining room and the kitchen and the second unit is composed of the guest room, laundry room and the garage. These two zones can act as both separate units and as a whole.

The living and dining area has glass walls on two sides, with views of the sea on one side and views of the rest of the house on the other.

At the other end of the room is a sitting area. A modern white sofa and a daybed complemented by two lounge chairs are organized around a minimalist and robust coffee table. A stylish side table with hairpin legs and a really unique wooden top accompanies the whole arrangement.

From the living area you can see the courtyard and the outdoor sitting area. An L-shaped sectional and a square coffee table sit under a canopy supported by a really cool and sculptural element.

All in one Cookware

Overview: The Vacimi collection makes cooking a cinch with minor innovations that have a big impact. A few of these include a diamond pattern on the underside of each aluminum piece that helps to evenly distribute the flame from a burner. The glass lids feature a convent flip-top that controls steam and pressure with a simple press of the hand. Lastly, the stackable design makes better utilization of storage space in cramped kitchens.

The Vacimi collection includes a multi-pan, a 2-handled pot, stew, steamer and 2 lids for a total of 6 pieces.
