Overview: This is a home surrounded by a vast garden that converges at a colossal pre-war rain tree with such magnificence that its presence is ingrained within the very architecture of the house itself. Throughout this home are numerous encounters with nature whilst still being very much indoors. The architectural placement of the building allows for the viewing of the feature tree from all of the main spaces, from either of its two storeys right down to the basement.

Overview: The 5,200 square foot house was built with a selection of materials chosen to reflect the regional landscape: quarry stone and locally-sources teak wood which are both resistant to weather variations and erosion. One of the main priorities was to allow the house to capture the stunning views of the ocean. However, because of the considerable slope and the tall building between the land and the shore, that proved to be a challenge. The solution for the problem was to relocate the entrance, the social areas and the infinity pool on the middle level of the three-storey structure. This way the incredible scenery can be admired without any obstructions and it feels like the ocean is at their doorstep.

Overview: The architect’s history of experimenting with different materials and techniques definitely helped shape this unusual residence. Partially built into the slope, the structure has some odd angles that follow the architecture of the terrain and, in combination with the green roofs, allow everything to blend into the landscape.

Apart from the architecture, the project stands out thanks to a really interesting and unusual swimming pool with a design inspired by a shell. The pool is surrounded by a teak deck and complemented by a jacuzzi.
